Description
FROM SURVEY DONE JULY 5TH 2019 PACIFIC MARINE SURVEYORS
The vessel "Conviction", bearing Barbados Document No. 00268 (vessel was not built in USA),
was built by Latini Marine in Italy of carbon fiber in 2006. The vessel is a diesel-auxiliary, sailing
sloop known as a Transpac 52, or TP52.
The hull construction is from a female mold, hand laid up, using appropriate layers of carbon fiber
matte, cloth and woven roving with resin. There is a gel coat finish on the exterior portions of the
vessel. The deck and superstructure are of the same type of construction; however, some areas
are cored and there is a nonskid pattern on the walking surface. There are transverse carbon fiber
bulkheads, intermittent framing and longitudinal stringers along with a deck-to-hull joint that gives
the vessel its rigidity and stiffness.
Boarding the vessel onto the open, aft cockpit, there is an emergency life raft tied down on the
stern. Forward of that there are two (2) carbon fiber pedestals with wheels. Between the
pedestals is a "coffee grinder" and navigational equipment, and there is adequate sailing
paraphernalia in the adjacent areas.
There are decks on the port and starboard sides leading forward for sail handling and other uses.
The carbon fiber, keel-stepped mast is supported with stainless steel rod standing rigging. There
is yacht braid running rigging. There is a stainless steel bow pulpit with a carbon fiber bow sprit.
Entering the vessel from the forward section of the cockpit, down a set of stairs puts you in the
main living quarters. On the port and starboard sides are a total of eight (8) pipe berths (four on
either side) running aft. Beneath the companionway stairs and the cockpit, on centerline, is the
location of the auxiliary engine. The engine, a small nav station and the fuel tanks are located in
this area. Aft of that is the rudder post and steering quadrant. There is also extra storage aft.
Continuing forward of the pipe berths in the main cabin, on the port side is a small galley sink, and
to starboard is a small Jetboil stove. Continuing forward through the bulkhead, immediately to port
is a manual marine toilet. Forward of this area is a sail storage locker, with one (1) cabin top hatch
providing light and air to this cabin.
RIGGING
Keel-Stepped Carbon Fiber Mast w/ Two (2) Sets of Spreaders, Stainless Steel Rod Standing
Rigging, Yacht Braid Running Rigging, Windex, Internal Halyards, Running Backstay, Hydraulic
Headstay, Yacht Braid Boom Vang, Mainsheet Traveler, Turning Blocks, Line Stoppers, Six (6)
Harken Carbon Fiber Self-Tailing Winches, Two (2) Carbon Fiber "Coffee Grinders".
DECK LEVEL INSPECTION:
The chain plates, turnbuckles, shrouds and halyards all appear to be serviceable.
