Catalina 34 Timeline

The original C34 was introduced in 1986 (first hull produced in 1985), remained in production to late 2009.   Production of the C 34 was in Woodland Hills, Ca, with an impressive 1800 built in its 24 yr year span.   Designed by Gerry Douglas it quickly gained propularity as a fast, stiff and sturdy built cruising yacht.

The original 1985 C 34 was deck stepped mast with Universal 21 hp.

In 1987 the hull incorporated a keel stepped mast with an upgrade to the Universal 23hp.

In 1989 the MK 1.25 was introduced with a "Sugar Scoop" stern.

Evolving in 1991 to the MK 1.5  with a narrow walk thru transom.  The earlier MK 1.5      remained with the keel stepped mast.  It wasn't till the later half, Catalina returned to the  deck stepped rig.

In 1996 the MKII was released to the market with a deck stepped rig, redesigned hull which is noticeably beamier in the cockpit with a wide transom walk thru and boarding area.  Revised deck mold, elimation of the dorade vents, lower traveler position, revised companionway hatch and slides, replacing the infamous "brightwork" wood with stainless steel handrails along cabin top.  And new upgrades below with teak wood work.  Engine was updraded to a 35 hp with a larger rudder.

The hull is hand laid fiberglass construction with no core material, and the deck utilizes a balsa core.   The hull and deck are jointed in a "shoe box" fashion and fastened with adhesive and stainless steel screws.   Catalina uses a modular fiberglass liner and structural grid, with stainless steel tie rods, and stainless steel truss.

Lucky Cat is hull # 1277
